2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Engine Differences
The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 has four engine options: a four-cylinder, two V8 options, and a turbo-diesel six-cylinder. Keep reading to learn more about what makes them unique.
2.7L Turbo High Output I4 Engine
The dynamic and energetic turbo 2.7L four-cylinder engine offers great power and performance, thanks to 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and can be equipped with two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD).
5.3L EcoTec3 V8 Engine
Enjoy adventures on or off the road with the 5.3L V8, thanks to its athletic build and solid performance — and not to mention, its greater fuel efficiency than most standard V8 engines. You’ll find this engine has 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
6.2L EcoTec3 V8 Engine
With dynamic fuel management that monitors power and torque while driving to limit the number of cylinders necessary for ideal performance and efficiency, the 6.2L V8 is an excellent choice. This impressive beast produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and is equipped with a ten-speed automatic transmission.
3.0L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel I6 Engine
Designed for ideal low-end torque to tow heavy haulers and receive greater acceleration strength at lower gears, the 3.0L turbo-diesel engine is perfect for your towing needs with best-in-class 4WD diesel towing of up to 13,000 pounds. It also boasts best-in-class horsepower of 277 and 460 pound-feet of torque. You’ll find a ten-speed automatic transmission with this engine as well.
2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Towing Capacity
Towing capacity is the weight that your truck can safely pull with a trailer. To calculate the towing capacity, simply subtract the curb weight from the trucks’ gross combined vehicle weight rating (GCVWR).
There are different types of towing: conventional, fifth-wheel, and gooseneck. Each type of towing requires a hitch that is capable of handling the weight that you need to tow. Typically, trucks have a hitch mounted under the rear bumper — this is where “conventional” towing capacity comes from. Gooseneck and fifth-wheel hitches are located within the truck bed directly over the rear axle, allowing the truck to carry more weight because of its position over the rear axle rather than hanging off the rear end.
